Upgrading Our Economy & Dysfunctional System by Introducing a strategically-continuous UK Development Authority. Replacing potentially harmful & divisive top-down policy by that established by properly-informed & electorally-proportionate debate in a United UK.

Because THEY Deserve Better
The Purpose of Unified Democracy
To maximise economic growth and to ensure ongoing faith and trust in Democracy and politics within an ethos of national unity and common purpose. By ensuring high integrity policy that demonstrably works optimally for the benefit of the whole of society (rather just a part of it) within a structure of strategic continuity. Obviating the costly disruption driven by sudden shifts in political ideology and the socioeconomic damage caused by thinly-informed “votes by any means” slogan-based populism.
It is based on the familiar 2-House Parliamentary model – enabling a clear and logical upgrade path. However, (as it name implies) it is based on a revised structure motivating and necessitating our politicians to work cooperatively – together with informed Sector Professionals, towards clearly-defined goals. Necessitating the reformatting of our Parliament from its current adversarial structure to maximise the benefits of constructive, democratic debate.
Thereby evolving Parliament as a competitive meritocracy, where those Parties with the best policies (established by electorally proportionate debate) advance and where empty-pledges will become self-defeating and pointless. Thereby changing the nature of the Executive as a management body, rather than one imposing top-down policy.
Unified Democracy has two dimensions. Firstly within a state to drive-up government performance and national cohesion (starting with the UK). Secondly as a common unifying system across those states deploying it (potentially the UK and EEA) to support R&D economy of scale and commonality of purpose – increasing UK global influence by restoring its reputation as a democratic leader and exemplar. The pressing need within the UK is described below – how it will work then described in the page that follows.
The Need for Change within a Divided & Politically-Disillusioned UK
Since the Thatcher Era of the 1980’s, the opposing economic ideologies of market-driven Capitalism (promoted by business) and of welfare-driven Socialism (promoted by the Trade Unions) polarised to the extent that promoting their shift- or preventing it – became the central focus of our government. Our politicians intent, above all things, on “proving” their own viewpoints to further their own careers.
This directionless, inward-facing government stance – constantly shifting from one ideology to the other, has led to the things of vital importance to our People (our Healthcare, Affordable Food Sustainability, Railways, Water & Energy infrastructures etc.), being of secondary importance to those running our country in their obsession, above all things, to gain or retain political power.
This power-focussed motivation, within an ethos of adversarial, opportunistic politics, has driven our political parties to target “votes by any means”. Rather than investing in the necessary skills and know-how to develop coherent, achievable strategies, simply making vague promises (e.g. for Healthcare) backed-up by Slogan-Based Populism – then resorting to “learning on the job” in the event of coming into power.
As a consequence, when faced with the harsh reality of government, “pledges” become either twisted (Raising NI, although “pledging” not to increase tax) or simply kicked into the long grass (as for our healthcare), resulting in the unstrategic, run-down of our Infrastructures and public services. With the exception of a few Private Members Bills, the ruling party then enabled to drive whatever (potentially socioeconomically harmful) policies it so choses via a whipped majority of MPs.
This high-jacking of our democracy by our politicians in their own interests (in the absurd conviction that they alone, speak for the “real people”), has been further exacerbated by successive administrations allowing unrestricted 3rd-world immigration (even promoting the UK the global destination of choice), undermining our nation’s fundamental socioeconomic fabric and the safety of our streets.
The combined effects of all these factors resulting in a sharp decline in social responsibility as trust in government, in public services, and of those of positions of public authority exponentially erodes. Our roads barely fit to drive on, our age-old water infrastructures failing and our healthcare now the abysmal 16th rated in Europe.
Theft from shops therefore now seen a “fair game”, anti-social behaviour and self-centric attitudes now in sharp ascendency. Skills shortages escalating due to our unplanned economy as our young people study hard to then face an unassailable challenge to step onto a career ladder. More and more of our professionals now leaving a “failing UK” with the potential for negative migration driving a vicious cycle of rising taxes and socioeconomic decline .
That’s why the time has now come to think “outside the box” and to open our minds to a different and much more democratic and effective way of running our country. This is described both in overview and in greater detail in the pages that follow – presenting a fully-worked solution as a basis for national debate and possible further refinement.
Joining the Movement for REAL Fully-Worked Reform
Transition to Unified Democracy currently represents the only viable means run the UK in a different, much more efficient and democratic way. To drive the National Unity that is now essential to compete and survive in an increasingly aggressive world. To eliminate the polarizing, politically turbulent, unstrategic practices of the past. Practices that are now driving the UK into ever-deeper decline and that populist slogan-based extremism (either to the right or left) will only make worse.
The ONLY way to make this happen is to join our movement for REAL Reform. The key to evolving it into a Political Party to then raise the necessary funds to contest the next General Election on a platform of democratic reform (rather than on specific policies).
Should our Party be elected, our MPs will therefore peer-elect Ministers to form a Government. We would then offer the top 5 posts of Government to the 2nd-placed Party to form a coalition, based on agreement of each other’s policies. We will then commence a 2-year programme of reform, followed by a further Election under our new system.
A vote for the UDM would therefore be unlikely to affect the Party coming into power in the immediate post-election period. The key difference being that the UK will, at last have a coherent strategy to put things right – a commitment we must now make for the next generation and an exemplar for others to follow.
