Reaping the Rewards of Government Pulling-Together for OUR Benefit
In comparison to our age-old Westminster System of today, upgrading it to one of Unified Democracy introduces benefits that are not only huge, but potentially limitless – both domestically and potentially globally.
Domestic Advances
Policy would become better informed and freed of the needless constraints of being invented and pre-bundled purely to attract votes for a single Political Party. Whilst the Governing Party would naturally have most influence, it would no longer preclude other ideas – every Party with a real say – proportionate to its popular vote. Policy debated constructively before its delivery, rather than pointlessly after it – as at present.
Unified Democracy dramatically increases the know-how and bandwidth of government by a strategically-continuous focus across individual Sectors (Business, Energy etc)- where Politicians work together with Sector Representatives to provide the know-how essential for effective policy and sector performance.
For example, a team of some 50 individuals assigned to Healthcare – ensuring its most cost-effective development and monitoring its ongoing service levels. A multi-disciplinary Team with the essential knowledge and know-how to guide NHS Policy (rather than a series of “learn on the job” Ministers).
The dynamics of Government and Voting would therefore change by the necessity of manifestos to stand the rigors of constructive debate – negating the “empty pledges” that have driven public skepticism and loss of confidence. The better-performing Political Parties becoming apparent to the public – informing their voting choice and constantly driving-up competence and trustworthiness in government.
An upgraded democracy to redress currently widespread feelings of disenfranchisement. Where the Government no longer has a mandate to drive unchallengeable policy top-down and where the influence of individual MPs is always equal. MPs freed of the imperative to “Toe the Party Line” (by abolition of Party Whips), enabling them to better represent and support the needs of their Constituents.
My establishing equality of citizen representation, Unified Democracy encourages Local Authorities to form Constituency Citizen Assemblies (each led by its elected MP) to form a bridge between Local Government and the National Sector Management Groups. Thereby enabling local needs to be better conveyed in forming policy and citizens to become directly involved in the debate.
By a combination of all these factors, together with a new professionally-informed Fiscal Office, we would restore public confidence in government and drive a significant increase in Economic Growth. Thereby, the money in our pockets, and the ongoing quality and sustainability of our infrastructures and public services – climbing up the European Ladder – rather than continuing our downward slide.
Potential Global Impacts
Unified Democracy, as the global leading-edge system of Government, would restore the UK’s reputation as the democratic exemplar for others to follow, increasing our international influence to further promote UK Businesses in the generation of Economic Growth. A UK now with the wealth, know-how and resources to develop leading-edge public services and to maximize lifetime opportunities for current and future generations.
By introducing a cooperative (rather than adversarial) ethos within government and by promoting its propagation, Unified Democracy aims to counter the personal imperative for domestic political power (and the corruption that inevitably follows) that lies at the root of most of the world’s problems – not least the inability to achieve concerted action among the democracies.
Thereby to create a counterbalance to the ever more threatening Sino-Soviet expansionist alliance and to promote global cooperation on climate change, eco-system erosion and ultimately on warfare. Perhaps the only viable path to a sustainable future.
